So What Exactly is Prediabetes?
Prediabetes is a “pre-diagnosis” of diabetes—you might see it as a warning sign. It’s when your blood glucose level (blood sugar level) is higher than normal, but it’s not high enough to be considered diabetes.
In addition, Prediabetes is an indication that you could develop type 2 diabetes if you don’t make some lifestyle changes.
One in three American adults has Prediabetes, and most do not even know they have it. If you have Prediabetes and do not lose weight or do not do moderate physical activity, you could develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years.

Wonder If You Are At Risk for Prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes?
You are at increased risk for developing Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes if you:
If you think you may be at risk, a health care provider can do a blood test to see if you have diabetes or Prediabetes.
Or you can take this test.

Want to Reduce Your Risk of Type 2 Diabetes and lead a healthier lifestyle?
Let's Start By Finding Out Just What You're Dealing With...
Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, yet over 86 million people have Prediabetes and 90% don't even know it.
Most of the food we eat is turned into glucose, or sugar, for our bodies to use for energy. The pancreas, an organ that lies near the stomach, makes a hormone called insulin to help glucose get into the cells of our bodies. When you have type 2 diabetes, your body can’t use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes sugar to build up in your blood.
Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition. It can lead to serious health issues such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, or loss of toes, feet, or legs.

The Good News is that Type 2 Diabetes Can Be Prevented!
Hearing your doctor say, “You’re at risk for type 2 diabetes,” or “You have prediabetes,” means that you can start preventing type 2 diabetes today!
If you are at risk for diabetes or have been diagnosed with Prediabetes, you may be able to prevent or delay getting type 2. Most of the things that you need to do involve making some simple lifestyle changes.
Lifestyle is what got you here, and lifestyle will get you back!
As an extra benefit, when you make these lifestyle changes you'll get other health benefits as well. You may lower your risk of other diseases and you will probably feel better and have more energy. Some of the changes include:
Losing some weight and keeping it off. Weight control is a vital part of diabetes prevention. Losing as little as 5 to 10 percent of your body weight will greatly improve your chances of preventing diabetes.
Following a healthy eating plan. This requires that you step away from the Standard American Diet (or 'S.A.D' diet) and start making healthy choices in the foods you eat and the way you eat them. This includes eating smaller portions with less fat and sugar.
Getting and staying active. Exercise has many health benefits, including helping you to lose weight and lowering your blood sugar levels. These both reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. If you aren't currently active, remember to start slowly and work up to the goal you and your healthcare provider have set.
Manage your stress. During periods of stress the body releases the hormone cortisol into the blood stream, raising blood glucose levels. Therefore, it's important to learn to manage your stress to help you maintain more normal blood sugar levels.

Let Me Tell You a Little Story...
I know what you're thinking, "And just how am I supposed to do that?"
Believe me, I understand. I've been there too!
10 years ago I was 50 pounds overweight (obese by BMI), all my numbers were outa wack, and I heard those scary words from my doctor.
But within 12 months I had turned all that around.
I lost all the extra weight, my numbers were back in the normal range, and I was healthier than I could ever remember being. And I did it all myself.
But believe me, it wasn't easy.
Finding a healthier way to eat. Coming up with an exercise plan I could live with. Getting my stressful life back under control. I wish there had been an easier way.
I'm glad to say . . . there is an easier way.
You don't have to figure it out all by yourself!
You don't have to guess if you're doing the right thing!
And you don't have to do it alone!

“I love having a lifestyle coach. She has given us great information, helped me stay on track and stay positive!”
When my glucose levels and blood pressure started to increase, I knew I had to do something to reduce my risk of developing type 2 diabetes. When I mentioned my concerns to a friend, she told me about this lifestyle change program. I love the support and encouragement I get from the other program participants and the lifestyle coach. I enjoy making lifestyle changes such as cutting back on red meat and sugary drinks. I now keep my bike at work and take lunch-break rides around town to stay active!"

"I knew I needed to make changes to my lifestyle to stay out of the hospital..."
"I’ve worked in medical research my entire adult life but always had a difficult time managing my weight. This program has taught me how to eat healthy and find an exercise routine that works for my schedule.”
As a medical librarian in a hospital, I knew I needed to make changes to my lifestyle to stay out of the hospital as a patient—but I had a hard time actually doing it. Then I found this lifestyle change program. I was motivated to join the program to make sure I could play with my grandchildren for many years to come. I enjoy the program because I have met many people who also struggle with diet and exercise. We share healthy recipes and motivate each other to exercise. I now read food labels and ride a stationary bike for an hour a day. I am looking forward to a long, healthy life with my children and grandchildren."

P.S.: While doing nothing is always an option. diabetes can be a costly and life threatening disease. According to the American Diabetes Association, people with diagnosed diabetes incur average medical expenditures of $16,752 per year, of which about $9,601 is attributed directly to diabetes. And that figure doesn't even include the costs of organ failure, blindness, amputation, and heart attack.
